Performance analysis of rectangular SIT (sediment invert trap) for stormwater drainage system

Abstract Deposition of solid particles in the stormwater sewers reduces discharging capacity, causing inundation. A sediment invert trap (SIT) is an option that can be installed at bottom sewer drain to intercept flowing particles. In present study performance rectangular SIT were analyzed experimentally and computationally. Variation particle trapping efficiency fitted open channel flume has been studied under interpretation depth, flow size, shape, slot width. To predict field a trap, 2D-VOF-DPM-CFD modelling carried out using ANSYS Fluent 2020 R1 software. For velocity determination, volume fluid (VOF) model was used along with realizable k-є turbulence model. efficiency, stochastic discrete phase (DPM) utilized. From experimental CFD modeling, it found varied change depth shape factor, Consideration terms factor modeling solid-phase through DPM validated predicted results those obtained mean absolute percent error (MAPE) 2.68%, 3.99% 6.6% for size ranges SS1, SS2, SS3 respectively all depths both widths considered this study.
